This sign was here the first time my father arrived in Montreal in 1962 (I think...maybe 1964...maybe earlier?). To think they could just whack it down sort of bugs me. To add a note to the post, YMC (the infamous d100 owner) says the sign was (is) definitely a reassuring "point de repère" for many immigrants to Montreal, sort of like the Statue of Liberty for the city of New York. Proportional to the city and of course, marketing brand name versus bronze scultpture...but I think you could go as far as calling it urban "art" by default now, hence its value in not "whacking it down"...anyone know where they are with that?
